Katherine Jenkins and Alfie Boe star in a Rogers and Hammerstein’s classic musical Carousel at the London Coliseum for only 41 performances.
Described by Time Magazine as the “Best Musical of the 20th Century”, Carousel was first performed in 1945 and features the classic numbers “If I Loved You”, “June Is Bustin' Out All Over” and “You'll Never Walk Alone”. Set in 1873 in a small fishing village in New England, USA, it’s the story of the impressionable Julie Jordan (Katherine Jenkins), who is scolded by the owner of the carousel for flirting with the rough but handsome Billy Bigelow (Alfie Boe). Their whirlwind romance soon spirals into an unhappy marriage marked by rage and frustration. Following a disastrous robbery which ends in him taking his own life, Billy searches for redemption in the afterlife and to make amends with their troubled daughter Louise.
Lonny Price who previously directed the acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd and Sunset Boulevard returns to the London Coliseum for this semi-staged production of Carousel.
