About Motown the Musical

Based on Berry Gordy's autobiography, Motown the Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre is the story of the founding of the record label that launched the careers of Diana Ross and the Supremes, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and Marvin Gaye amongst many others.

Motown the Musical is set the in 1983, where at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium many have gathered to celebrate Motown’s 25th anniversary. In a flashback to the young Berry Gordy watches the neighbours dancing in Detroit and them to 1957, where with an $800 loan from his family Berry Gordy forms his own record label……the rest, as they say, is history.

Packed full of 50 classic songs, Motown the Musical features among others My Girl, Dancing In The Street, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and I Heard It Through The Grapevine.
